Patrick Roy’s Debut Sparks Islanders’ OT Thriller Win

Oh boy, the Patrick Roy circus pitched its tent on Long Island and – shocker! – the Islanders actually managed to snag a win in his big debut. That’s right, kids; Roy’s squad did some fancy skating and pulled a Houdini act, escaping with a 3-2 thriller in overtime against the Dallas Stars. Talk about making an entrance on Sunday!

So, like, New York Islanders were all, “Surprise!” and poof, Roy replaces Lane Lambert as head honcho on Saturday. Roy’s been basically a hockey hermit since 2016 and now he’s all giddy about jumping back into the NHL mix.

Mr. “I Love This Game” Roy couldn’t stop gushing after they clinched the W, claiming he wasn’t gonna do the whole repeat thing, but… well, he said, “I love it,” chatting with Sportsnet’s Eric Engels. Roy’s basically like the guy who wins the lotto and then keeps buying tickets because he can’t get enough. He’s over the moon about the respect, yada yada, from the grandmaster Lou (Lamoriello) and his posse – better than lazing around playing golf, he reckons. Feeling alive and all that jazz.

Now, let’s have a slow clap for Bo Horvat, the Islanders’ forward who played hero with an OT breakaway goal. He spilled the tea, saying the team was all about winning one for the new ringmaster Roy. Apparently, Roy brought some kind of new, hyped-up mojo to the bench that even a Fitbit couldn’t quantify. Following the coach’s debut, Bo couldn’t resist cracking a joke about Roy’s pedometer-popping energy levels.

Post-win celebration aside, let’s peek at the ol’ scoreboard, shall we? The Islanders are now sitting pretty with fifty-one points, playing chase with the Carolina Hurricanes who are claiming the third spot in the Metropolitan Division – Islanders trailing and breathing down their necks with an extra game played.

And that’s the lowdown from the New York Islanders’ camp. They’ve opened the Roy Chapter with a win, and we’re all buckled in to see where this rollercoaster goes. Get your popcorn ready!
